Groucho Marx (October 2, 1890 – August 19, 1977), born Julius Henry Marx in New York City, was an American comedian, actor and writer. Instantly recognisable by his greasepaint moustache, raised eyebrows, cigar and crouching walk, Groucho was famous for rapid-fire wisecracks and insults. He later hosted the hit quiz show *You Bet Your Life* on radio and television, wrote several books, including *Groucho and Me*, and received an honorary Academy Award in 1974.
