# Zoroaster Quotes
Zoroaster, also known as Zarathustra, was an ancient Iranian prophet and religious teacher who founded Zoroastrianism, one of the world's oldest surviving religions. Historians disagree widely about when he lived. Estimates range from around 1500 BC to about 500 BC, and many scholars place him somewhere around 1200–1000 BC in eastern Iran or Central Asia.
His teachings, preserved in the hymns called the Gathas within the Avesta, centre on the worship of one wise god, Ahura Mazda, and on the struggle between truth and falsehood. Zoroastrianism is summed up in the ethic "good thoughts, good words, good deeds," and fire is its sacred symbol of purity. Today it is practised by communities including the Parsis of India. His quotes, here in translation, praise wisdom, contentment and honour.
