About Zaha Hadid

Iraqi-British - Architect | October 31, 1950 - March 31, 2016

Zaha Hadid (October 31, 1950 – March 31, 2016) was an Iraqi-British architect, born in Baghdad. She studied mathematics at the American University of Beirut before moving to London to train at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, where she later taught and developed her bold, experimental ideas.

For years many of her radical designs were considered impossible to build, but she went on to create some of the most striking buildings of modern times, known for their sweeping curves and dramatic sense of movement. Her works include the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics, the MAXXI museum in Rome, the Guangzhou Opera House and the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku. In 2004 she became the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and in 2016 the first woman awarded the RIBA Royal Gold Medal in her own right. Often called the "Queen of the Curve," she died suddenly in 2016 at the age of 65. Here are 34 Zaha Hadid quotes.
