About Robert Baden-Powell

English - Soldier & Founder of Scouting | February 22, 1857 - January 8, 1941

Robert Baden-Powell (February 22, 1857 – January 8, 1941) was a British Army officer, writer and the founder of the worldwide Scout movement, born in London. He became a national hero for his defence of the town of Mafeking during the Second Boer War (1899–1900), and his military handbook on scouting skills became unexpectedly popular with boys back home.

In 1907 he held an experimental camp for boys on Brownsea Island, and in 1908 he published *Scouting for Boys*, which sparked a movement that quickly spread around the globe. With his sister Agnes and later his wife Olave, he also helped found the Girl Guides. Named "Chief Scout of the World," he spent his final years in Kenya. Like many figures of his era, some of his views reflected British imperial attitudes, but the movement he started now includes tens of millions of young people of every background. Here are 50 Robert Baden-Powell quotes.
