About Marilyn Monroe

American - Actress | June 1, 1926 - August 5, 1962

Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962), born Norma Jeane Mortenson in Los Angeles, was an American actress, model and singer. She spent much of her childhood in foster homes and an orphanage, and was working in a factory during World War II when a photographer discovered her, launching her modelling career and, in 1946, a film contract with 20th Century Fox.

Monroe became one of the biggest stars of the 1950s in films such as *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes*, *The Seven Year Itch*, *Bus Stop* and *Some Like It Hot*, for which she won a Golden Globe. Determined to be taken seriously, she studied acting at the Actors Studio in New York and started her own production company, rare for an actress at the time. She died at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 36, but remains one of the most famous icons in popular culture. Here are 50 Marilyn Monroe quotes.
